“aday” is the French word for cards. “Patience” is a French term used specifically for playing cards. Indeed, cards have long been associated with gambling and casinos, and the French were no exception to this rule. It was in the 16th century that the German language developed a word, “Kluckie” which can be translated as “luck, fortune, or a Devil.” This was how the name has survived to the present and we all know the result with the spreading of the game to the rest of the world.
The playing card in its present condition does not look much different from the early nickels-and-dimes game. The template is the same, the suits are the same, and the idea of reading the face is the same. In its most basic form, the modern card is a representation of the face of the person who dealt it and who has the authority to give or change the cards, or who is dealing in turn.
The suits in the playing cards are ranked: spades, diamonds, hearts, clubs, and spades. Spades are for Kings, Clubs are for Queens, Hearts are for Everyone, and Diamonds are for Kings.
Why do we play cards today? There are many reasons, but let’s get to the basics: we play cards for many of the same reasons we enjoy ourselves. Helping one another, strangers and family members. Winning a friendly bet or tournament, showing off a card or taking one home as a prize. All of these reasons and more can be found in the playing cards.
While there are many games to play, some card games have a higher percentage of winning hands compared to others. Some of the most popular card games are blackjack, poker, baccarat, and roulette. Each of these games can have their own rules for betting, but the general assumption is that the higher the percentage of one winning hand over another, the better.
Hot Streaks
There are streaks of games, matches, and weather that can influence the cards you play. Many good card players will remember the streak of cards that have helped them, or hurt them, and they will make an educated, calculated judgment on the next hand. WIN percentages are usually excellent, but losing hands are also more memorable than winners.
The most important factor in going from a WINNER to a loser is the hand you are dealt, and that is usually the strongest in any card game. Many a book has been written, “Using Your Poker Hand Guide to Play the Worst Hands in Poker,” but it’s the Lady Luck that comes to play more than any tool available.
Knowing the odds of winning, versus the odds of losing, is an important tool in decision-making. Many draws are known, both in history and in real life, when a player has had a lucky hand and they didn’t know it at the time, or didn’t care to seek out the information. Still, there are those who seek out those lucky hands, and with consistent success, earning a living in poker playing, is very possible for those that have the patience to make the necessary calculations in the heat of the moment.
If you’re a problem gambler, betting common money, your best friend might be an addiction to gambling. If you can convince your friends to loosen up some, or all of the rules, you might have a chance of cleaning up. Be careful in choosing friends; most are good, but some are very poor. Make sure you invest in a good book, or allow your friends to invest in one for you. Then, the money’s in your hands. Better still, invite some friends over who are novices at the game.
Practice makes perfect, so play. Learning to play poker is a lot like learning to ride a bicycle; it goes perfectly well with practice.
